NEWSCASTS

One of my pleasures (along with fishing with a great group of folks) has been editing this publication. However, if anyone tells you I always enjoy sitting for hours pounding out stories and doing all the minutiae involved in producing an issue of NewsCasts, don't you believe it! I keep telling myself that this is not MY publication, it belongs to YOU. So, what I'm asking for is some active participation in supplying me with articles, photographs and meaningful content.  The board assured me that if I stayed on as editor, they would be forthcoming with more assistance in the form of material but you need to pitch in, too. Since I don't live in Columbia and can't be at every SRTU function, I think the request is reasonable and I'm asking in a gentlemanly way, so if you want to help out, I will welcome any and all story and photo submissions.

If you want to provide articles for the newsletter, I welcome your contributions; but please expect them to be edited. If you have photos with your story, those are acceptable provided they are digital images (jpeg's preferred). There is no minimum or maximum length to a story as I can adjust the page to fit your material. (Each page of the newsletter is a stand-alone html file.) However, 1500 to 2500 words is about right.  Four to six images are ideal, but if you have more, send them. Appropriately captioned, of course.

If you are a fishing equipment manufacturer, fly fishing promoter, another TU organization, or outfitter, yet not a member of SRTU, you are still welcome to send in a story (or a media kit) and we accept product promotional and/or evaluation articles in a story form. No obvious advertisements. However, any submission must be related to fly fishing. Destination articles and press releases from governmental organizations are welcome and will gladly be included, but please let us know all the details, including any time limits on special offers to SRTU members. There is no compensation for articles and all materials become the property of Saluda River Trout Unlimited. The editor reserves the right to accept or reject submissions.

The stats prove it...NewsCasts is fast becoming a decent venue for fly fishermen in the Columbia (SC), Aiken (SC) and Augusta (GA) areas. Reader stats indicate close to 1000 readers per issue with an occassional spurt over 1000. So, you do get some good exposure to the high-end fly fishing market, the guys and gals who take trips, hire guides, and buy fly fishing paraphernalia.

If you want to send in an article, but don't know if it is acceptable, then query the editor first: ccarter88@comcast.net. I will make every effort to communicate with you at the earliest possible opportunity. I accept articles written in any version of MS Word, text files, or MS Publisher. Images can be emailed in jpeg format although other image formats can be opened. Remember, no pay is involved, just a lot of status, getting a byline and becoming a "published" author.

SPRING ISSUE: 2008
ITEM: FAVORITE TROUT STREAMS in UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA.... is now available.
What a fantastic effort by the CHATTOOGA RIVER CHAPTER of TROUT UNLIMITED! It's also a golden opportunity - for the paltry sum of $10 - to own a copy of this GBC spiral bound book. Everything you ever wanted to know about trout streams in the Upstate has been compiled by a team of enthusiastic anglers from CRCTU. As they point out, the streams listed (and mapped) in the publication are not ALL the streams in the upstate, only those which are some of "our favorites." And, if anyone knows streams in the Upstate, it's the guys from the Chattooga Chapter.  Streams in Oconee, Pickens, and Anderson Counties of South Carolina are carefull mapped out with access points, topo maps, thorough
descriptions, etc. The best part of this is that WE, the SRTU members, can obtain one of these great publications at any SRTU meeting. Bring $10 and add this one to your library. It's worth its weight in gold!
ITEM: SCFISHINGREPORTS has created a forum just for SRTU members...
Here’s some good news, fellow SRTU members; we now have a forum just for us. Jay A’Hern of SCFISHINGREPORT has set us up with a PRIVATE forum accessible only with a password. So, here’s the procedure, seven easy steps:

1.      Sign up for the forum by going to the web page at www.scfishingreport.com.

2.      Click on the Saluda River on the main map, then on the Saluda River page click 'Message Boards' on the top right.

3.      This will be the SALUDA RIVER page where you can register; click "'REGISTER' on the top right, then click" I AGREE TO THE TERMS, and on the next page, you can set your log in and password. You will be asked for your email address.

4.      Now  that you are registered, you will be eligible to post on any forum EXCEPT the “Saluda River TU – Private” forum. This is reserved for TU Members Only.

5.      By the way, you might want to bookmark the SALUDA RIVER forum page so that you won’t have to go back through all the steps. Here is the link:  http://www.scfishingreport.com/Pages/sc_message_boards/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=25

6.      On this page, you will be able to see the Saluda River TU – Private forum. If you click on this you will get a security screen asking you for a special password.

7.      To get the Saluda TU – Private forum password, you will have to send me an email (ccarter88@comcast.net) to verify that you are a member of the Saluda River Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Send me your proper name and your address and when I receive verification from the chapter secretary that you are a member, then you will be sent a password. If I know you personally, there will be no delay and I should be able to get a password to you fairly quickly. Please keep your password confidential, otherwise, we’ll have to be changing the password all the time and the purpose of the private forum will be defeated.
